Designing your first web site
Load Your Web Site Onto Your Host
You'll need a File Transfer Protocol utility to transfer your Web
site to your host. You can find a number of shareware choices on
Download.com. For our example site, we used ACEftp, a popular freeware
utility. Click here to
download

To upload your site, you'll need the following information:
- Host name (for sipero online
customers this is located in your hosting account control panel
and will look something like: ftp.siperoonline.co.uk ).
- Log-in name and password (for
sipero online customers this is usually your account name and
password, however you should check your welcome email to confirm
this).
- Directory for your Web pages. (for Sipero Online customers using
a Windows hosting account your directory will be /www
whereas UNIX accounts simply use the root of your webspace
( / )
Once you've connected to your host you should see
two windows (as shown above). On the left you have the files and
folders on your pc, on the right you have the files and folders
on your web space. When you've moved to the correct directory (/www
for windows hosted accounts), it's time to upload your index.html
file.
Simply select the files from your left window (your
pc files) and click the right arrow between the two windows to copy
them to your web space. Alternatively you may drag and drop your
files from one window to the other (the procedure depends on your
FTP utility). Don't forget to move any graphic images as well (if
your graphics are located in a different folder on your pc you will
need to create this folder on your web space also).
Disconnect from the Web site, close your FTP utility,
open your browser, and do a final check to make sure your site looks
right. If everything works correctly, you're open for business.
